Things Will Be Different‘s First Trailer Promises a Time-Twisting, Mind-Warping Thriller

Get an exclusive look at editor turned director Michael Felker's feature debut, arriving this fall.

Michael Felker—an editor who’s worked on Aaron Moorehead and Justin Benson‘s eerie, freaky filmography, including The Endless and Something in the Dirt—makes his writer-director feature debut with Things Will Be Different, which looks eerie, freaky, and excellently timey-wimey. It also stars Riley Dandy, who we’ve been a fan of since seeing her fighting an out-of-control robot Santa in 2022’s Christmas Bloody Christmas. io9 has the first trailer for Things Will Be Different to share today. Check it out!

As you can already tell, Felker’s experience as an editor is going to serve Things Will Be Different‘s story extremely well, as it concerns siblings (Adam David Thompson and Riley Dandy) racing through criss-crossing timelines.

Here’s the official synopsis: “When estranged siblings Joseph (Adam David Thompson) and Sidney (Riley Dandy) rendezvous at a local diner after a close-call robbery, they hightail it to an abandoned farmhouse that transports them to a different time in order to escape the law. Their getaway is derailed when an unknown and cryptic metaphysical force emerges and blocks them from returning home. Trapped on the puzzling plot of land, their captor makes it clear that no one can leave until their deadly demands are met. What results from their entrapment not only bends the forces of spacetime—forcing the two to question everything they know about their own reality—but pushes their familial bonds to the breaking point.”

In an exclusive statement provided to io9, Felker explained a bit more about his inspirations. “I made Things Will Be Different for people who love thrillers, noir, and science fiction they can think about,” he explained. “It’s a giant mystery box of a movie with a strong familial core that’s inspired by my own family. Adam David Thompson and Riley Dandy are just incredible as Joe and Sid, and I can’t believe they aren’t actually brother and sister. I hope people either ponder their own theories and talk about them after watching, or just sit back and enjoy an emotionally wild and unpredictable ride. Either way you can’t go wrong.”

Benson and Moorehead, who worked on Marvel Disney+ series Moon Knight as well as season two of Loki—speaking of tangled timelines—executive produced Things Will Be Different, which also stars Chloe Skoczen, Justin Benson, Sarah Bolger, and Jori Lynn Felker. It hits theaters and is out on digital October 4.
